Have you ever been asked to "go take a look at yourself in the mirror !"
How does that make you feel ? Is it really a question and an invitation to apparently go and look at yourself and question why you are not the person they think you should be and be embarrassed at what you see . . . This is often how the statement comes across. Fair enough, we all need to ask ourselves from time to time if we are doing the right thing and that it is aligned with the wider groups vision but does looking at our face in the mirror delve deep enough past the exterior of our human form ? Of course, generally, we would not go and actually look at ourselves in that mirror I know, but just as if we were looking in the mirror we would begin to only focus on the surface defects focussing on the immediate negatives driven by the way in which such an invitation is made. Take the invitation and tell yourself to do it prompting permission to self reflect and take a self assessment of what is or isn't quite right about you. Or even better ask the the person delivering the message a question back and help them turn it into an intelligent one. For example, "What is it that I will see when I look at myself in that mirror ?" Ok that sounds a little flippant but what you are really asking is "Tell me more ?" What if you asked yourself a different question, one that detours the physical appearance and goes straight to the engine of your inner self ? If I thought that you were not grasping the "thing" or the "task at hand" and I gave you the space and time to allow you to ask yourself "Who Am I?" would you start to uncover a deeper self analysis of why you are who you are and why you are being who you are?
